The Musical Box Society International and our MBSI Southeast Chapter jointly sponsored an exhibit, "The World of Mechanical Music," at the Orlando Science Center, Orlando, FL, from November 13, 2010, through January 9, 2011. More than 9,000 people attended during the course of the exhibit. The slide show on this page shows pictures made at the exhibit. Use the scroll-bar on the right to learn more.

The show opens entering the Science Hall, designed to help youngsters and adults learn about the science that makes mechanical music work.  Then we enter the guided tour area with a Victorian parlor featuring some mechanical music items.  From there we go into the "MBSI Emporium" where instruments are displayed and demonstrated, along with related items.  Large period pictures on the walls set the stage in the Victorian and early post Victorian era.

Also included in the slide show are photographs of the large fairground organ that entertained arriving guests at the entrance to the Orlando Science Center on opening day and some shots of children at work in the Science Hall area learning to make music of their own with punched paper strips and music box movements.  Visitors could also purchase kits to make their own music boxes, a great project for youngsters.
